Things To Consider Before Hiring A Plumber

Whether you have heard your fair share of plumbing horror stories or have actually experienced one yourself, you know how important it is to make sure you take the time to hire an experienced and reputable plumbing contractor or company. Even the smallest of mistakes can lead to massive problems that can cause wall, floor, and ceiling damage and require costly repairs. Here are a few things that we consider vital that you keep in mind when it comes to hiring the best plumber to solve your plumbing issues.

1. Is The Plumber Already Certified?

Always ask for a plumber’s certification and never just take their word for it — even apprentices should have a license. Not only is a licensed plumber registered with a governing body that provides rules for every plumber to follow, but your interests will also be protected, should something go wrong with the plumbing job. Often, homeowners assume every plumber has a license, but this isn't always the case, it’s always worth asking and all plumbers should always have the proper certification on hand to show their clients.

2. How Long Has The Plumber Been In Business?

If the plumbing company you are thinking of hiring has been in the industry for more than five years, it is generally a good sign as they will have a proven track record of success and quality workmanship. A larger company will have multiple plumbers employed with many years of experience, meaning greater hand’s on experience. Never hesitate to ask your plumber how long they and their company have been in business.

3. Will You Be Charged An Hourly Or Flat Rate?

When searching for the right plumbing company, ask if the company charges per hour or a flat rate. A flat rate is one that won’t increase later due to labour costs and an hourly rate is one that is billed per hour, subject to the plumber’s efficiency and job difficulty. Also, keep in mind that price is often associated with quality of work, you should not hire a plumber simply because they charge the least amount for a particular service.

4. Is Cleanup Included?

While it may sound like a silly question to ask, some plumbers actually don't clean up after themselves. All plumbing jobs will require mess to be made, and this can be quite large or small depending on the job, you don't want it to come as a shock to you when they finish a job and leave you with old parts to dispose of and a mess to clean up. If the plumbing company you are considering using doesn’t include cleanup afterwards, consider using a different company as we believe that the cleanup is just an essential part of a well-rounded service.
